In 1904 Mr. AP Moller together with his father Peter Maersk Moller created the Svendborg Steamship Company.  Despite initial difficulties, they managed to raise enough capital to buy a second-hand steamboat on October 6, 1904. 

AP Moller wanted to expand much faster than the Svendborg Steamship Company Board of Directors would allow, so when the opportunity arose, AP Moller founded another steamship company in 1912 to ensure greater operational independence.  Due to favorable circumstances in the shipping business during World War I, the new shipping company expanded rapidly.  Both companies were managed in parallel until 2003, when they merged under the same name: AP Moller - Maersk.

CMA CGM SA is a French company.  With routes in 420 ports in 160 countries.  Its headquarters are in Marseille, France

The name is an acronym for two predecessor companies, Compagnie Maritime d'Affrètement (CMA) and Compagnie Générale Maritime (CGM).

The history of CMA CGM dates back to the 1850's when two major French shipping lines were created, Messageries Maritimes (MM) in 1851 and Compagnie Générale Maritime (CGM) in 1855, soon renamed Compagnie Générale Transatlantique in 1861. Both companies were created in part with the backing of the French state.  The French government, under the presidency of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Prime Minister Jacques Chirac, progressively merged the two companies between 1974 and 1977 to form the Compagnie Générale Maritime, which was still owned by the French government but operated by the rules of the law. of the market in order to compete.  Compagnie Générale Maritime (CGM) operated as such from 1974 to 1996 when it was privatized.

Hapag-Lloyd AG is a German company that was formed in 1970 through the merger of Hamburg-American Line (HAPAG) and North German Lloyd.

“Hamburg America Line (HAPAG)” was founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1847 for the transportation of people and goods across the Atlantic Ocean  .

“North German Lloyd” was founded in Bremen, Germany in 1856 offering passenger and freight transport services between Bremen and New York, mainly serving immigrants to the United States.

Later, with the arrival of commercial aircraft, the passenger transfer service by ship was no longer necessary and this accelerated the need to merge both shipping companies in 1970, creating Hapag Lloyd.

In 1998 the company Preussag acquires the companies Hapag-Lloyd AG and TUI to form the TUI AG group.  Hapag-Lloyd brings together the maritime and logistics subsidiaries of the TUI group.

In 2005 the TUI group acquired the Canadian companies CP Ships, making the group the fourth largest container shipping company in the world.

In October 2008 TUI AG sold the majority of its Hapag-Lloyd shares (56.67%) to the Albert Ballin consortium, made up of the City of Hamburg, Kühne Holding AG, Signal Iduna, HSH Nordbank, MMWarburg Bank and HanseMerkur.  The remaining shares remain the property of TUI AG.

At the end of 2013, Hapag-Lloyd acquires the Chilean shipping company CSAV in the summer of 2015. As a result, Hapag-Lloyd becomes the fourth largest shipping line in the world.  For its part, CSAV received a 30 percent stake in Hapag-Lloyd, which increased to 34 percent as a result of the capital increase in cash.  In November 2015, Hapag-Lloyd successfully goes public and reports approximately 265 million Euros for the purchase of new ships and containers.

Today Hapag Lloyd continues to expand and digitize its processes.

Due to the nature of global expansion in 1981 the parent company changed its name to Evergreen International.

ONE is one of the youngest shipping companies in the world because it officially began operating on April 1, 2018, ONE is the result of a merger (Joint venture) between the 3 largest shipping companies in Japan: NYK, MOL and K LINE where NYK has a majority share of 38% while MOL and K Line have 31% each.

ONE is headquartered in Japan but has commercial offices in Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, Hong Kong and Brazil, serving more than 90 countries.

Bonus: ONE decided to paint all of their ships and containers in magenta, which is a very striking pink.  The magenta color scheme was inspired by the "Cherry blossom trees" because it is one of the national symbols of Japan.
